Cathedral Length Train
November 20, 2007
Cathedral Length Train: This is a popular choice for that fairy tale look. A cathedral train is generally 2 1/2 yards or 7 1/2 feet from the waistline. These gowns often come with a bustling option or a removable train to allow for better movement. There are different ways in which a dress can be bustled, so speak to your dressmaker about the bustle that will work best for you.

Reception Question: How to exclude children under age of majority in attending the reception?
November 14, 2007
We recently received a question about excluding children from attending a wedding reception. This may be of help to some people.
Question: My daughter is getting married and we are wondering how you exclude children under the age of majority in attending the reception. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated .
Answer: I think the proper way to handle this is to send an invitation to the guests that are to be invited. This may mean sending two invitations to one household. Children 18 and older should receive their own invitation, even if they are still living with their parents. But by doing this, you will be letting the family know that you would prefer a set age group to attend the reception. If you were to address the invitation as “and family”, this could lead to your guests inviting more people than what you have budgeted for, by inviting their “dates”. It could get “out of hand!”
The M&M Wedding Cake ….WOW!!
November 11, 2007
If you are a candy lover or more so a lover of chocolate, you will adore this M&M Wedding cake made by Dahlia of Dahlia’s Custom Cakes.
Dahlia was inspired to create a wedding cake using the M&Ms after creating a halloween themed cake one year, which incorporated candies, including orange and black M&Ms.
This cake is a true master piece, which took Dahlia more time than she had first anticipated but was extremely happy with the result.
Before assembling the cake she blocked out the design on graph paper to both a) ensure the tiers would balance each other aesthetically and b) to estimate how many M&M’s she need to complete each tier. Thank goodness you can buy M&M’s by the pound in single colors!
Dahlia, you are very talented and I can’t wait to see your new cake creations.

Are favours for a bridal shower necessary?
November 5, 2007
The trend today is pushing more to a “yes”. Favors add a personal touch to the bridal shower and adds a special thank-you to your guests for sharing the day with the bride. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Favors could be chocolates, cookies, small packages of tea or coffee. Ask some of your girlfriends for help, you’d be surprised what hidden talents they have.
Who should plan a bridal shower?
November 4, 2007
Often asked, “who should plan a bridal shower?” Well, traditionally one of the bride’s attendents should plan the shower. It could be the Maid of Honor or a group of the girls. The mother of the bride and mother of the groom, typically don’t throw the shower, but can be asked to help the planners out.
The bridal shower is typically given to the bride by her friends to celebrate her upcoming wedding, by showering her with gifts she will use in her married life. Close friends and family should be invited, but not everyone invited to the wedding needs to be invited to the shower.
Groom’s Gift
November 2, 2007
It is tradition in some cultures to give your groom a gift before or after the ceremony. But is it necessary? Not really. You may want to discuss gift giving with your groom. If he has planned to get you something, here are some ideas of things you can purchase or give him.
1) Gold Cuff Links- This could be something that can be worn on your wedding day. It will always be a reminder of your special day.
2) Money Clip- You could engrave a special message on it, a keepsake of your wedding day.
3) Dress Watch – again something that he could wear on your wedding day. You could engrave a message on the back, personalizing it.
4) Journal – you could begin a journal when you become engaged. Writing stories or thoughts as you plan your wedding and present it to him at the rehearal or wedding. Very sweet idea and inexpensive.
These are only a few ideas. There are many out there, from digital cameras and golf clubs to a spa day or a romantic weekend getaway. It depends how personal or romantic you wish the gift to be.
If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions, please feel free to leave your comment.
