Formal and semi-formal weddings can take place in the daytime and in the evening.  But the number of guests invited to the wedding, the time and the bride’s dress determines the type of wedding you are having.

Having large bridal parties are uncommon in Europe.   Traditionally, the bride and groom will choose a young couple or individually choose a family member or close friend to stand as their witness. 

In most European countries, the father of the bride will walk her to the door of the church, where the groom is waiting for her.  Then the bride and groom together will walk up the aisle.  

You may even see the groom will go to the bride’s house and together they will walk to the church with their wedding guests following them.
